Don Pasquale, an elderly and wealthy bachelor, decides to marry to invalidate his nephew’s inheritance as punishment. Ernesto refused the marital match Pasquale proposed out of love for the widow, Norina. Thus, a grand scheme to ensure the lovers Ernesto and Norina can marry and receive Pasquale’s wealth ensues with the help of the town’s physician, Dr. Malatesta. Malatesta and Norina convince Pasquale that Norina is Matesta’s sister and offers her to Pasquale for marriage. Smitten with her feigned persona, Pasquale accepts and Norina, transforming back to herself once the marriage contract is signed, tortures Pasquale until he ultimately gives Ernesto and Norina his inheritance and permission to marry.

*Amanda Austin portrayed the role of Norina.

“Ms. Austin made a superlative Norina, representing the willful Columbina character of commedia del'arte--much like Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. She has a luminous presence and an impressive facility in the bel canto style with a memorable trill in her satchel of skills.”
